Maarit Kirvessalo

Maarit Kirvessalo-Nurmela is a native of Finland. She graduated from Detmold Music Academy in Germany and from Sibelius Academy in Finland as a violinist. Her main teachers were Anja Ignatius, Tibor Varga, and Lukas David. She has also studied in various masterclasses with such distinguished teachers as Eli Goren, Yair Kless, Chaim Taub, Nathan Milstein, Leon Spierer and Sandor Vegh. In addition, Ms Kirvessalo – Nurmela was invited to participate to the Jascha Heifetz’s Masterclass in USC- LA.

Maarit Kirvessalo- Nurmela’s activities as concertmaster and soloist include the Kammerorchester Tibor Varga Detmold, the Lima Symphony Orchestra, the Hamburger Mozart Orchester and Camerata Lysy Gstaad. She also worked two years as assistant of Professor Tibor Varga in the Music Academy of Detmold in Germany. Returning to her home country, Ms Kirvessalo-Nurmela worked as a member of new grounded Tapiola Sinfonietta and as a concertmaster of Turku Philharmonic.

She is also a conductor and has studied with prof. Jorma Panula and she has been the artistic leader of the Ensemble Camerata Finlandia since 1990.

Currently Maarit Kirvessalo-Nurmela is working as a Lecturer of Violin Music and Violin Pedagogy at the Sibelius-Academy Helsinki.
